History of THE KING'S ACADEMY

THE KING'S ACADEMY is a Christian middle and senior high school in Sunnyvale, California. The school was founded in 1991 by a group of parents and Jack McBirney, our first principal. Jack had been the principal and founder of San Francisco Christian School and he and his wife, Allegra, felt the call of the Lord to begin another Christian school in the South Peninsula. Through the hand of God, they were linked with a group of parents who saw the need for a school specifically designed to meet the needs of their adolescent children - a school marked by quality academics and a strong commitment to biblical principles. These founders wanted to create a place where families could feel confident that their children would not only be well educated, but also well loved and supported.

The school opened its doors with 29 students, 3 teachers, a secretary, and a principal while renting space from Union Presbyterian Church of Los Altos. The next year the school grew to 100 students and filled the facility to capacity. The Lord miraculously provided a site that was beyond the dreams of even the starriest-eyed supporters of TKA: the old Sunnyvale High School campus. This facility includes a full-size track, three swimming pools, a full-sized gymnasium, men's and women's locker rooms, a large quad, and ample classroom space. We have since added two computer labs,a television station, a library, a chemistry lab, a biology lab, a physics lab, new softball and baseball diamonds, and a weight room. We currently have over 45 full-time teachers, 9 part time teachers, 6 full time Administrators, 15 full time administrator staff and 8 part time administrator staff.

In the spring of 1997, a six-year accreditation was issued by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Our athletic teams have won league and regional championships, and our drama program is recognized throughout the South Bay for its excellence. TKA students take top honors at area speech meets, have gone to national spelling bee competitions and have been named National Merit Scholars.

Although this list of accomplishments and history for this young school is impressive, the distinguishing feature of THE KING'S ACADEMY is, and always has been, its commitment to a different standard. THE KING'S ACADEMY is striving to achieve something in the area of character development with its students by providing opportunity for relationships with mature Christian men and women as part of its normal daily operation. The expectation is that teachers and staff will seek out and find kids and that kids will see Jesus in the lives of those around them, both inside and outside the classroom. This relational ministry will attract kids to Christ.

The overarching purpose and goal of THE KING'S ACADEMY is "to change lives through Christ-centered education". This concept fuels all that occurs here at TKA. All those employed or involved in leadership believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, to whom this school is dedicated, would expect nothing less than the full energy of all involved working towards the common goal. We live fully expecting that miraculous things will occur in the lives of kids as they invest their time here at THE KING'S ACADEMY.
