Library Mission and Philosophy

  • The mission of TKA Library is to:
    • Support the spiritual, academic, moral, and social ESLRs (Expected Schoolwide Learning Results) of the school;
    • Provide student, staff, and parent access to appropriate and adequate resources in a variety of formats;
    • Ensure the availability of a Christian perspective in all subjects;
    • Promote the efficient and responsible use of all library resources;
    • Provide an instructional program that teaches students how to access, evaluate, and become effective users of information and ideas in all formats;
    • Promote the love of reading and life-long learning; and
    • Maintain an appealing atmosphere that is welcoming, organized, and conducive to quiet study.

  • A significant portion of the library media center materials is Christian in content for practical as well as philosophic reasons. While public libraries are an additional source for secular reading and research materials, the library media center may be the only source available to our school community for distinctively Christian materials. With this in mind, it is the intention of the library media center to acquire and maintain a broad selection of Christian materials, including biographies and fiction, Bible history, Christian life and conduct, and Bible commentaries.

  • The library media center collection balances Christian resources with secular materials to enable the effective research and processing of information from a variety of sources. The library media center provides access to materials that are appropriate to the curriculum, assist in research, and provide required and recreational reading. These materials include books in the school curriculum and on school-recommended reading lists, and additional classic and secular books that are considered quality literature.

  • Students are encouraged to think with discernment in the search for Truth. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom...” (Psalms 111:10a)
