special events

Each year, The King’s Academy students are afforded a myriad of opportunities to participate in a variety of student events, all designed to be uplifting and enriching experiences for our students. Many of these events are organized by Student Council and the Class Offiers.  New ideas are added every year!

Fall Carnival

The Fall Carnival is an annual family event sponsored by the Student Council. It is an evening spent having fun with friends and family and settling into the new school year. Each grade is responsible for providing and manning a booth in order to raise money for that class. The Student Council also provides some of the booths, such as the "Teacher Dunk Tank" and the "Car Smash." Families enjoy walking around, eating cotton candy and caramel apples, and spending a quarter or two at the various booths run by students. This event is too good to miss. It is loads of fun for everyone!

Homecoming

Homecoming is a time to invite TKA alumni back for a football game and show school spirit through some crazy, fun activities. The night culminates in a lip-sync contest with representatives from all the grades and from the staff!

Spirit Week

The King’s Academy Spirit Week is a four-day, school-wide competition between the grades, run by the Student Council, filled with laughter, cheering, excitement and fun! All students from 6th-12th grades participate in themes for dressing up each day, and in a variety of competitions throughout the week. The Spirit Week rallies take place each day before lunch. The rallies are filled with energy and excitement as students compete in games and show their school spirit by cheering for one another and their classes. Classes earn spirit points by following the theme, competing in games, and coming up with cheers and skits. The week culminates with the class dance competition and the crowning of the Spirit Week class champion. It is a great time to go crazy and show just how much class and school spirit we have.

Winterlude

Winterlude is a special event for the Juniors and Seniors to spend time together. The setting and program varies from year to year. Every other year, Winterlude has been a cruise around San Francisco Bay on the Hornblower yacht while students enjoy dinner and dancing.

Junior High Banquet

The Student Council  plans this special activity for the 7th and 8th grade classes.  The location and theme vary from year to year.  In the past, the JHB has been a mystery theatre activity at  a local restaurant, a hawaiian luau at City Beach, a spy-themed event at the Discovery Museum in San Jose, and an 80's themed-party on campus.

Junior-Senior Banquet (JSB)

A big end-of-the-year bash for the Juniors and Seniors, this formal event is a great finish to the year at The King’s Academy. The Junior class raises money during the school year to host the event where they also honor the graduating senior class.

See You At The Pole!

TKA participates in this annual, national gathering of Christian students of all ages at a flagpole in front of their local school for prayer, scripture-reading and worship, during the early morning before school starts. The American SYATP event occurs on the fourth Wednesday of September each year.

Christmas Week

Student Council sponsors a week before finals with an ugly sweater contest, gingerbread making contests, and even snowball fights!

Do Ducks Have Lips

Designed for the entire student body, this event is a fun "scavenger hunt" type event held at a local mall.  Staff members dress up in disguise and students have to walk the mall searching for them by asking a suspected person in disguise, "Do Ducks Have Lips?" and receiving the appropriate "code" response.

High School Events

The Student Council plans a special event just for high school students in May. Recently, they held a Luau complete with Hawaiian dancers, a limbo contest, Polynesian food, inflated sand volleyball court, s'mores, and other surprises.

High school students have also enjoyed an old-fashioned Hoedown at Coyote Ranch in Morgan Hill with line dancing, square dancing, a hay-bale ride, a delicious BBQ dinner, and much more.

ReThink Student Apologetics Conference

TKA takes a group of students each fall to Costa Mesa for the ReThink Student Apologetics Conference, sponsored by Stand To Reason. This is a thought-filled event designed to equip students to respond to theological challenges they will assuredly confront in life.
From a recent Parent Survey: "My daughter had the opportunity to attend the ReThink Conference twice and that had a big impact on her spiritual life."

Movie Nights

On a regular basis, the Student Council hosts movie nights for all students to join together, munch popcorn, or drink hot chocolate and watch a movie in the W Building or in the Quad under the stars.
