Frequently Asked Questions
Does TKA offer any type of financial assistance?
Yes, Financial Assistance is available to families who have been accepted at The King’s Academy. Once your student has been accepted, you are invited to submit an application for Financial Assistance. Aid is distributed based upon need.
Are students required to take an admissions exam? When does this testing take place?
Yes, all prospective students must take an admissions exam. Students scoring in the 55th percentile or higher on this exam will be granted an interview with a member of the Admissions Committee. Testing for the 2013-2014 school year is currently by appointment only. Testing for the 2014-2015 school year will take place on Saturdays, January 11, 2014 and February 1, 2014. Testing is from 8:45 a.m. until approximately 1:00 p.m.
When do applications for the 2014-2015 school year become available?
Applications for the 2014-2015 school year will be available online beginning October 1, 2013.

What is the deadline for submitting an application?
Application Deadlines for 2014-2015 school year:
- Priority Application Deadline: January 24, 2014
- Application Deadline: February 28, 2014
- International Student Application Deadline: January 24, 2014
Are references required?
Yes. The King’s Academy requires the following references for admission consideration:
- Current Core Teacher Reference
- Former Core Teacher Reference
- Adult (non-family member) Reference
- Pastoral Reference or Parent Written Statement
When/How are students notified of the admission decision?
Offers for admission are made in mid-March for those applicants who submit applications by the Priority Application Deadline and have completed all necessary steps by early March. Students will be notified of the Admissions Committee decision by mail.
Does TKA accept international students?
Yes, The King’s Academy does accept international students in the 9-11th grades. Please review our International Student Policy for additional information. International Student Applications must be submitted by January 24, 2014.
Do you provide any ESL support for international students?
No, The King’s Academy does not provide any English as Secondary Language support services to our international students. International students applying to The King’s Academy must be fluent in all aspects of the English language and are placed into mainstream classrooms. Please see our “International Student Policy” found on the TKA website for additional information.
Do you accept students with diagnosed learning differences?
Yes. Although our resources are limited, we do provide some services to students with diagnosed and documented learning differences. For more information, please contact our Academic Support Coordinator, Doreen Heenk at (408) 481-9900, Extension 4277 or doreen.heenk@tka.org.
What is the class size at TKA?
The class size in Grade 6 is 20-22 students. The class size in grades 7-12 varies based on whether it is a core class or an elective; the average class size is 24 students.
What is the 2013-2014 annual tuition?
- Grade 6: $12,826*
- Grades 7-9: $13,959*
- Grades 9-12: $14,850*

International Student Tuition 2013-2014 (Grades 9-11): $20,850
What time does school start/end?
Classes begin at 8:00 AM daily. Students are released at 3:00 PM on Mondays and Wednesdays, and 2:20 PM on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Does TKA offer any after school programs?
The King’s Academy offers an After-Care program for grades 6-8 only. Students in grades 6-8 who remain on campus for longer than 30 minutes after the last bell are required to check in with After-Care, which is open until 6:00 PM. The fee is $5.00 per hour for this service.
What clubs do you have?
A list of current clubs is available on the TKA website by clicking on “Student Life” from the Home page.
What division are your athletic teams?
Enrollments of CCS member-schools, grades 9-12, are used for determining division play for playoffs in most sports. The CCS Bylaws for each sport describe how these divisions are determined. Based upon our enrollment, these are the current divisions that King’s participates in for CCS Playoffs:
- Football-Small School Division
- Volleyball, Basketball, Cross Country– Division IV
- Soccer, Baseball, Softball- Division III
Leagues are not set up by division, therefore we play teams from Division I to Division V, in league and non league competition.
Which schools do your athletic teams play?
The King’s Academy plays a variety of schools from all divisions in nonleague and league play. The majority of our competing teams are from the Central Coast Section, but we do play in tournaments and games out of the section. The leagues that we participate in are:
- West Bay Athletic League
- Peninsula Athletic League
- Santa Clara Valley Athletic League
