Here at THE KING'S ACADEMY we describe how we do ministry by using the words "Incarnational Ministry". We get this method of ministry from the master minister Himself, Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is God and when He came to earth, he became like us; he became one of us. He was not unreachable or unapproachable. He was the ultimate relational minister. He came to relate. He came to know us and allow us to know Him personally.
|
| We use this model of ministry in our interaction with students here at TKA. Teachers step out from behind the desk and become friends with students. We desire to be like Jesus to students; that they would see Him in us and follow Him wholeheartedly. Therefore we aim to be relational in our interaction with students. |
Clubs and Chapels
THE KING'S ACADEMY has a unique feel as each week students have multiple opportunities to grow in their knowledge of Jesus Christ through fun, exciting activities and events. Our main avenues are through Chapel Tuesdays and Club Fridays.
The purpose of Club/Chapel is to convey Jesus to the students in a real, tangible and fun way. These times are not designed to be a chapel time by the stereotypical definition of the word. While students |
|
| are pointed to Christ we, with the Holy Spirit's help, desire to show students that walking with Jesus is an exciting adventure and what we were created by God to do. These Fridays usually include interactive games and activities. |
Woodleaf
 |
Every September, THE KING'S ACADEMY closes down for 4 days and the entire High School takes a bus ride to Young Life's Woodleaf camp. From Friday to Sunday, students are challenged by a speaker and worship together in Club meetings, |
play wild games, enjoy fellowship and sharing during "cabin time," and run wild over Woodleaf's extensive campus during free time. Kids can go on the zip line or the blob in the lake, kayak or canoe, play basketball, sand volleyball, Frisbee golf, foosball, pool, ping pong, hang out in the coffee shop or ice cream shop, play water polo or water basketball, and many other community building fun activities.
| This is traditionally a time to kick off the school year, setting the tone for the energy and spiritual emphasis of the campus. Teachers exchange their classrooms for a cabin, and become full time youth pastors for a few days. The bonds that grow between students and their peers, and between students and staff will last well beyond Woodleaf, and sometime well beyond graduation. |

Mexico
 |
The spring time means "Mexico time" for THE KING'S ACADEMY. We take our entire High School, in 75 different caravanning vehicles, put them in almost 100 different tents for a week, and help them build 20 or more houses for Mexican families in need of a home in a poor community in between Tijuana and Tecate, just across the border. The Spiritual Life department helps to |
coordinate morning devotional times at our makeshift stage on the property where we stay, and plans the evening worship times. These usually involve a speaker, and worship singing. We also traditionally host an open-mic night for the kids.
|
| The department also helps to pull off "Kids' Club," our own version of a three-day Vacation Bible School program for the young ones in the neighborhood. It consists of puppet shows, craft times, snacks, singing, inflatable jump houses and slides, and a personal presentation of the gospel. A lot of our high schoolers assist for several hours each afternoon with this effort, working with the kids and actionally learning how to "love the least of these." |

Snow Trip
Each winter, the Spiritual Life department, along with some adventurous teachers, takes about 40 kids up to Young Life's Mountain Lodge for 4 days. Students get to ski or snowboard 3 straight days at Sugar Bowl Resort just down the road, and enjoy fun and fellowship each evening, all the while bragging about the biggest air and biggest bruises from the day before.
