Honor Societies

The Principal's List is comprised of those students who have achieved a 4.0 or above for a semester grading period.  The Honor Roll recognizes students who have earned a 3.5 and above, but less than 4.0.  Sixth grade students are not eligible for these honors. See explanation below.

Students who earn recognition on The Principal's List or Honor Roll and their parents receive an email from the Registrar's Office notifying them of this honor at the end of each semester's grading period. The lists are also emailed to the entire school community.

TKA views the 6th-grade year as a transition year into the 7th-12th grade program.  The emphasis for our younger students is placed upon getting acclimated to the larger school, to the diversity of a combined junior high and high school, to having multiple teachers, and to cultivating more personal responsibility for their studies.  Once that foundation has been set, TKA welcomes students to engage in the more competitive aspects of junior high and high school honor societies and honor rolls.

The National Honor Society (NHS) consists of students in grades 10-12, and students may be inducted in the spring of their 10th, 11th, or 12th-grade year.  The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) consists of students in grades 7 and 8, and students may be inducted in the spring of their 7th or 8th-grade year.  Only students who have attended TKA for at least one semester may be considered for membership.

Eligibility to apply is based on a cumulative academic GPA of 3.6 or above for NHS, and 3.8 or above for NJHS (weighted GPA, but not including PE). In February of each year, students of good character who meet the minimum GPA requirement will be contacted by email and invited to submit an application to the Faculty Council.  Membership selection is based not only on GPA but also on faculty evaluations and the student’s demonstrated leadership, service, and character.

If a student is not selected, he/she may apply again the following year provided that his/her cumulative GPA remains at the appropriate eligibility level or above. Once a student is inducted into NHS or NJHS, he/she remains a member as long as all of the membership requirements are fulfilled. There is a yearly membership fee. If for any reason a member is dismissed from the chapter, the student may not rejoin at any time in the future.

This is a statewide organization that recognizes scholarship and citizenship. To be eligible for this honor, junior high and high school students must apply for and meet a prescribed level of academic achievement each semester beginning in the seventh grade and sophomore year, respectively. Students must re-apply for membership each semester.  

Forms for CSF will be available online in the Royal Reminders in January and September.  The completed application along with a copy of the student’s transcript or report card for that semester will be due in the SAO by the set due date before the SAO closes. A processing fee of $5 will be payable online via credit card through a link provided in the Royal Reminders. Applications will not be accepted after that date and incomplete submissions will not be considered.

Eighth grade students who are awarded membership three of their four semesters in junior high will become CJSF Sealbearers. A seal will be affixed on their promotion certificate, and an honor cord worn at the promotion ceremony.

Seniors who have earned at least four semesters of membership based on grades 10^th through 12^th, with one of the semesters based on senior grades, will become a lifetime CSF Sealbearer. They will graduate with “Sealbearer” annotated on their transcript and in the graduation program. A seal will be affixed on their diploma and an honor stole worn at the graduation ceremony. If a student transfers to The King’s Academy from another high school, he/she may still apply for membership in CSF/CJSF. Please direct your questions to CSF Advisor at registrar@tka.org.

The National Chinese Honor Society (NCHS) was established in 1993 to recognize those accomplished high school students who study Chinese as a world language. The National Chinese Honor Society is a scholastic organization that promotes and recognizes students who demonstrate citizenship, leadership, and community service.

The purpose of the National Chinese Honor Society is to encourage its members to become life-long learners in order to gain a better understanding of Chinese language and culture, as well as to play an active role as a contributing global citizen in the twenty-first century.

The applicant must be a full time high school student (grades 9 – 12) who has studied Chinese for four semesters in high school with an average of B or higher. A qualified candidate is someone who is willing to work with the school chapter advisor, as well as with other students, to serve as a positive role model in the area of Chinese studies. Senior members will receive a special cord to wear at graduation.

TKA's chapter of the Société Honoraire de Français recognizes outstanding scholarship in the study of French and promotes activities around French language, literature, and culture for students with a strong interest.  Another goal is to encourage friendship between people of different French-speaking countries and to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with French speakers. Membership in this organization, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF), is the highest honor for students of French in this country.  Senior members will receive a special cord to wear at graduation.

TKA’s chapter of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is called Los Caballeros del Rey, the Knights of the King. Our motto is “All together.” The society recognizes outstanding scholarship in the study of Spanish for students who have a strong interest in the Spanish language and hispanic cultures, as well as in friendship between people of different countries and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with Spanish speakers. Another goal is to promote interest in Hispanic studies. This organization is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP). Senior members will receive a special cord to wear at graduation.

TKA's Troupe of the International Thespian Society is by invitation only to students in grades 9-12. Students are inducted based on their involvement and dedication to theatre. Once inducted, members are required to attend meetings every other week and volunteer for carnival and bake sales. Members receive a special cord to wear at high school graduation.
