TKA Sevenstar Online Course
TKA students may take certain courses for remediation online with Sevenstar. The online courses are UC approved and are taught by Christian teachers through the online education organization. The Sevenstar courses are asynchronous, meaning there is no live teacher instruction. Each week, a series of assignments are due. Students must complete the assignments on their own. The course instructor is available for questions via email or a phone call can be scheduled. The Sevenstar course instructor is not a TKA employee.

Drama
- Teacher: Daniela Howard
- When: June 12-16, 8:00-11:30 a.m.
- Who: Students entering 3rd-8th grade
- Cost: $375
This exciting program will immerse students in the world of theater. Throughout the week, students will participate in a variety of engaging drama activities. Under the direction and guidance of the instructor, the students will work collaboratively with their classmates to create and rehearse short scenes, which they will showcase in a final performance on the last day of the camp for family and friends to enjoy.
Daniela Howard is an experienced English and drama teacher holding a CA teaching credential. She also has a BA and an MA in theater from UCSC. She was the Drama teacher at Lynbrook High School before resigning to be a full time mom of two boys Benjamin and Samuel.
Fairy Tales & Legends: An Adventure in Writing

Once upon a time, a fellowship of students took a week-long journey through the exciting world of fairy tales and American folklore! This is your call to adventure in reading and writing! If you embark on this quest with us, you will read stories from around the world, examining their history, timeless themes, and cultural significance. You will also develop your skills as a storyteller by creating original fairy tales and legends through drama, art, and writing. Do not refuse the call and join us in this class as we embark on the greatest adventure you will have this summer all while staying in one place.
Rachel Hirota has a CA teaching credential as well as Masters degrees in Education and English. She loves to get lost in a great book and if there is any tie to fairy tales or folklore, she might be there for a very long time.
Introduction to Spanish

¡Hola! Welcome to a fun crash course in Espanol. Throughout the week, students will be exposed to the language through interactive and engaging activities covering topics such as greetings, introductions, and other basic conversational phrases. By the end of the week, students will have gained a foundational understanding of the language and the confidence to continue their language learning journey.
Matthew Tompkins has been a Spanish teacher for over 20 years. He has taught Spanish 1, 2, 4, and AP Spanish Language and Culture. He loves being in the classroom and helping students discover the joy of learning another language. He also focuses on helping students compare their own culture and the cultures of Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. He has a degree in Spanish from Occidental College and a M.A. in Latin and American and Iberian Studies from UCSB.
Life and Job Skills

Are your pockets empty? Are all of your friends going out on Friday night, but you’re home watching Netflix with your mom because you don’t have any money? You need a summer job! Does that seem overwhelming? You want a job but you don’t know where to begin? If this sounds like you, then you won’t want to miss this week-long course! In this class you will learn about different summer jobs, how to find job opportunities, as well as how to fill out an application and how to conduct yourself in an interview. Additionally, you will learn other skills that will help you in all aspects of life. Start your summer off by gaining the skills you need to walk confidently into a job interview and walk out with a job so that you can have the financial means to have a great summer!
Jordan Coss served for 10 years as a pastor in churches in Georgia and California. Part of that time was serving in the role of youth pastor and helping students learn life and job skills before sending them off to college after graduation. He has been teaching for the past 3 years. He has a B.A. in Bible and M.A. in New Testament from Freed Hardeman University, an MDiv from Harding School of Theology, and is currently finishing up a Doctorate of Ministry at Fuller Theological Seminary
Writing Essentials

This course is designed to help students hone their writing skills by teaching them to produce high-quality writing. A wide range of writing essentials, including grammar, syntax, sentence structure, paragraph development, and essay structure will be taught. Additionally, they will learn the importance of editing and revising, including the strategies for proofreading and refining their work. Through interactive and practical activities, students will develop thinking skills by practicing different types of writing, including informative, descriptive, and persuasive. By the end of the course, students will have improved their writing as well as increased their confidence in their writing abilities.
Chris Schoppet-Panzarini is a credentialled Social Studies teacher with a Bachelor’s degree in English and a Master’s in Teaching, so he’s uniquely equipped to help students know how to write in all subjects. Mr. Schoppet-Panzarini enjoys going to the library with his almost two year old and finding grammatical errors in books that the editors didn’t notice.
Algebra Preview/Review
- Teacher: Taryn Durbin
- When: June 19-23, 8:00-11:30 a.m.
- Who: Students entering 9th-12th grade

For this week-long review course, we will be focusing on reviewing/previewing fundamental Algebra skills that will be necessary to be successful in Algebra 1 and Algebra 2. We will cover topics such as Multi-Step equations, working with fractions, Systems of Equations, Linear and Quadratic functions and their graphs and equations. This is all depending on levels of students. There will be time spent on also having them focus on individual areas of need. Students will be taking a pre-test prior to the class to help get a basis of areas of need prior to the start of the course.
Taryn Durbin is the Algebra 1 and 2 teacher at The King’s Academy. She has over 15 years of experience teaching mathematics, with a major focus on Algebra. She has a degree in Mathematics and a Masters in Education. Her passion is helping her students understand and learn the fundamentals of Algebra to prepare for all future mathematics courses. She also loves to spend time with her family each summer going to the lake and paddle boarding and boating.
Introduction to Art

In this class, students will be introduced to the basics of art through fun and engaging projects. They will participate in a range of hands-on projects and interactive activities, where they will explore different art mediums such as paint, collage, and sculpture. They will also learn the basic principles of art, including color theory, composition, and perspective. By the end of the week students will have developed their creativity, imagination, and problem-solving skills, while having fun and making new friends.
Joshua Knoxville is an experienced artist and animator—achieving special recognition in comic book illustrations during his years in college. While his BA and MA degrees are in Biblical Theology, he has a strong skill set in traditional drawing, painting, graphic design, and cartoon animation. Originally planning to work at Pixar, Joshua transitioned his career to ministry to teach about Christ.
Walt Disney History

In this Summer Enrichment course, students will explore the life, work, and legacy of Walt Disney, and how his contributions impacted the world during his lifetime (1901-1966), alongside the history of the world during that period, including the Great Depression, World War II, and the Cold War. Students will learn about Disney's early career in animation, the creation of Disneyland, and the development of his multimedia empire. Through lectures, discussions, multimedia presentations, and hands-on activities, students will gain an appreciation for Disney's legacy, examining how his work continues to influence contemporary culture and entertainment. On the last day of the course, students, parents, and teachers will visit The Walt Disney Family Museum at the Presidio in San Francisco, where they will see artifacts from Walt’s life and the Walt Disney Company. By the end of the course, students will have developed critical thinking skills and a historical perspective that can be applied to other areas of study.
Chris Schoppet-Panzarini is the 7th Grade World History teacher now but he used to work for The Walt Disney Company. He has his Duck-torate from Disney University. He’s also been to Disneyland over a hundred times in his lifetime.
Introduction to Graphic Design

In this class, students will learn the basics of graphic design and its importance in the digital age through learning CS6 Photoshop. Through a combination of lectures, hands-on projects, and interactive lessons, students will learn the fundamentals of graphic design, including layout, typography, color theory, and design principles. Students will walk away from this class with a new understanding of color design and its impact on the viewer as well as the confidence to use what they learned to continue to create visually appealing designs.

Cooking and Baking

Sign up for this fun class, and go home everyday with food to share with your family and friends! During the week you will learn the basics of cooking and baking through a combination of hands-on instruction, interactive lessons, and recipe exploration. Students will learn the essential kitchen skills such as knife techniques, cooking methods, and kitchen safety. By the end of the week, your mom won’t ever need to cook dinner again because you will be the new family chef!
Tanya Rollins loves to be in the kitchen! She has been cooking and baking for over 30 years, including 2 summers at Steve & Kate’s Camp and 9 years working in the Knight’s Cafe’.
Study Skills

Do you want to get organized and learn how to manage your time better, but you don’t know where to start? This course is just what you need! During the week you will learn essential study skills to help you be more successful academically with a lot less stress. Through a combination of lectures, interactive lessons, and practical exercises, you will learn to manage your time effectively, improve your note-taking skills, and develop strategies for test-taking. You will learn to better use the tools that TKA has for its students such as Google Classroom, FACTS, and Studyo. By the end of the week, you will be ready to tackle the next school year having improved your motivation, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
KJ Kingsolver has a bachelor’s degree in History. This year will be his 5th year of teaching. In his spare time, he likes to play video games, watch movies, and hang out with his wife and friends.

Welcome to Middle School! In this intro course to being a sixth-grader here at TKA, students will learn all about campus life, classes and schedules, and make some early friends heading into their first year of middle school. Topics covered will include binder setup and organization, campus locations of classes and need-to-know spots, team bonding games for social interactions, how to take notes and stay organized, basic writing skills and organization tips from school to home. Come ready to get setup for the first day of school and beyond!
Jason Peevyhouse has been a sixth-grade teacher for 16 years, 8 of them at The King’s Academy. He holds a BA from San Jose State in the Creative Arts field and enjoys teaching middle school, going on hikes in the Bay Area with his family, and playing board games.

Junior High Math Essentials: Summer Review and Enrichment Tutoring Program
Junior High Math Essentials is designed as a fun, hands-on, interactive refresher course on the foundational math skills necessary to be ultimately successful in their junior high math class. In a small group, students will receive personalized attention and tutoring to meet their specific learning needs in order to be prepared for their next level of math.
Small tutoring groups* for this program will be based on your student’s recent completion (2021-2022) of TKA benchmark tests for the following math levels:
Math 6 and General Math 6/7: Grades 6-7

Volleyball: June 26-30
Beginner Camp: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Boys and Girls Entering Grades 3-5
We will focus on understanding the basic skills. We lower the net and use volley-lites, and allow catching and throwing (simulating volleyball movements) for beginners to build confidence and keep the rallies going. Athletes will learn how to warm up, bump, set, and serve the ball. They will learn all the rules, and play volleyball-related games every day. We will end camp with a day of contests and games! This camp is perfect for you if you want to learn a new sport, and have fun doing it!
Junior High Camp: 12:30 - 3:30 p.m. - Boys and Girls Entering Grades 6-8
We will go into greater depth with fundamental volleyball skills. Passing, setting, spiking, underhand, sidearm, and overhand/jump serving will be taught. We will focus on one to two skills per day, perform drills, and play games to apply what we have learned. We will end each day with a scrimmage, and the last day of camp will feature a fun skills contests and ice cream for everyone!

Current junior high boys coach with 25 years of experience is coaching a volleyball camp for elementary and junior high school kids, and we'd love to have you join in the fun!

This camp is perfect for young basketball enthusiasts who want to improve their skills and have fun on the court. Campers will participate in a variety of drills, games, and competitions that focus on developing their basketball fundamentals while having fun and making new friends!

Now in his fourth year as varsity boy's head coach, Coach has led his teams to four straight CCS Playoff appearances, with a CCS final and semi-final to his resume.

Don't miss out on the opportunity to improve your football skills and make new friends at our one-week football day camp! Campers will participate in fun games and competitions emphasizing teamwork, sportsmanship, and friendly competition while developing their football skills.
Coach: Dante Perez
Coach played QB for 16 years at Valley Christian HS San Jose State, North Dakota State, and then in the Indoor and Outdoor Arena Football League before coaching. He has been coaching football at TKA for seven years, and in his first year as head coach, he led TKA to a SCVAL El Camino Division Championship.
