Behind the Scenes & Under the Lights

We offer diverse opportunities for every kind of theatre artist, whether your passion shines under the spotlight or thrives backstage.

Students can take center stage as performers or master the vital crafts of technical stagecraft, lighting design, sound engineering, stage management, and set construction.

Our Season: Four Productions, One Showcase

We keep the ghost light burning year-round with four major productions annually, giving both high school and junior high students their moment in the spotlight. Each season features a High School Play, a High School Musical, a Junior High Play, and a Junior High Musical.

To close out the season, our Advanced Theatre class puts on a Theatre Showcase—a spectacular finale celebrating our most dedicated performers and technical artists.

Beyond the Mainstage: Clubs & Troupes

We offer unique pathways for students to deepen their craft, serve the community, and earn national recognition:

International Thespian Society (ITS): TKA hosts an active chapter of this prestigious honor society, celebrating student achievement in the dramatic arts and connecting our thespians to a national network of theatre artists.
Jesters (TYA Acting Troupe): Our specialized Theatre for Young Audiences troupe brings the joy of storytelling to the community, cultivating joy and using the dramatic arts to serve and inspire younger audiences.

Explore Our Classes

Fundamentals of Theatre

Year Course: Grades 6-8

This is an elective that will introduce students to many aspects of acting and theatre production. The course is structured around units, including monologue and scene work, auditioning, story-telling, script writing, costume design, critique writing, improv exercises and theatre games. Students will demonstrate what they have learned by completing in-class performances and projects. This class is designed for students who have had little to no experience in theatre.

Theatre 1

Year Course: Grades 9-12

Theatre 1 will introduce high school students to the foundations of theatre. They will be exposed to theatre history, terminology, and basic principles of acting including character analysis, movement, staging, collaboration, improvisation, and critical analysis of performance. This hands-on course provides students with the fundamental knowledge of all aspects of theatre and helps students develop confidence on stage. Note: This class should only be taken once for credit.

Theatre 2

Year Course: Grades 10-12

This elective course is designed for students who successfully completed Theatre 1 and who desire the skills needed to pursue theatre beyond the basic level. This course will focus on acting theory and methodology, as well as playwriting, directing, and theatre production. The course will also cover similar units as Theatre 1 but will take them to a deeper level. Additionally, this course culminates in an end-of-year production. Prerequisites: Completion of Theatre 1 or teacher approval or with evidence of valid prerequisites, audition, and successful completion of theatre history packet.
