The FTC season runs from September through at least January, possibly longer if the team qualifies for post-season championships. Teams compete in qualifying tournaments, typically on a Saturday in November and another in January at venues in the Bay Area.
The team meets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school 3:00 - 5:30pm and on Saturday afternoons Saturday times vary depending on student/coaches schedules. The fee to participate on the robotics team is $475 which includes snacks/food at all meetings and tournaments.
To find out more about FTC robotics, we will host an interest meeting at lunch on August 23rd in E-9. We'll also be offering technical workshops covering hardware, software and CAD topics applicable for new students as well as previous members in Room E-9 on:
- Tuesday & Wednesday, August 27-28, 3:00-5:00pm
- Tuesday & Wednesday, September 3-4, 3:00-5:00pm
New students will need to fill out an application and ask for two adult recommendations - see links below. In addition, each student will interview with the coaches before team selections are made.
The TKA robotics team members contribute a variety of skills and no prior experience is required. We train new members on CAD, hardware prototyping with the Tetrix system, and software with Android Studio to program in Java. We also have an on-campus machine shop to design and manufacture parts. The team is run like a small business, with marketing, fund raising, team management and presentation skills needed as well.
