SPIRITUAL LIFE AND SERVICE

Junior High Chapel This Week:  Tim Reilly, from Kingdom Building Ministries (KBM), spoke to our junior highers about "Radical Evangelism"!  TIm gave his testimony and talked about our OWN testimonies and how important they are to us!  He asked the kids why we want to hear other people’s testimonies?  He encouraged them by letting them know that they don’t have to know all the answers to give our testimony.  When someone asks you a question and you are unsure, it is okay to be honest.  He challenged the students with a few things: " You must make Christ YOUR Lord."  “Christ ain't done with you until you are done breathing.”  “If you claim Christ but act like a punk, then you make Jesus look like a punk.”  “You go to a Christian school that means you are a Christian right?...but wait….if you hang out at Taco Bell does that make you are a taco then?”  He used the verses 1 Peter 3:15; 2 Corinthians 5:17-18; Romans 10:9, and John 1:12.  Tim stated, "When you trust in Jesus,  He invites you into His family, and He wants to call you son or daughter." After the talk, he challenged the kids, with eyes closed and show of hands, if they were ready to live life to its fullest and take that step towards going all out for Jesus.  A little over half the room raised their hands.  Tim also explained what it is to have a relationship with Christ and how it is the most important commitment they will EVER make.  A third of the room raised their hands to accept Christ!! It was quite a moving morning.

High School Chapel This Week: Pastor Danielle Parish of Spark Church, Palo Alto, was our guest speaker. She spoke on Elijah and the Baal prophets in 1 Kings 18. Elijah is a prophet of passion, someone who is fully dedicated to God. Danielle shared a bit of her story in having a passion and calling for Jesus, however, like buckets of water, some have tried to discourage her from pursuing her passions. Danielle encouraged the students to never let the fire for God die in their own lives by 1) Asking God for passion, 2) Reading the Bible regularly to get to know the one you're passionate about, and 3) Intentionally being around passionate people.

2nd Annual High School Hoedown!  Hey Y'All! It’s time to get out your cowboy hat and boots again! SAVE THE DATE: Saturday, MAY 18, for the High School Hoedown at Coyote Ranch (Metcalf Rd  Morgan Hill, CA 95037) from 6:00-10:00 p.m. Dinner Included! Tickets are sold daily in the Quad for $15; prices go up to $20 on Wednesday, May 15, so get your Tickets ASAP! Students will enjoy square dancing, line dancing, a BBQ dinner, hay rides, games, bonfire & s’mores!  Ye-Ha!

ACADEMIC AND COLLEGE COUNSELING

Invitation for Seniors Only:  Dessert Party!  Seniors, come have dessert and pin your picture on the college map on Thursday, May 16, during lunch in the W Building.  It’s time to celebrate!

Request for AP Reconsideration: Students wanting to be reconsidered for an Advanced Placement (AP) course need to fill out the application linked here or pick up an application from the College Counseling office.  We need the completed form returned to the College Counseling Office by Wednesday, May 22.  Students will be assigned an appointment time between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. to present their case to the AP Appeal Committee after school on Friday, May 31.  Each appointment should take about fifteen minutes.

Sophomores and Juniors: Exploring College Options is a recruitment program sponsored by the undergraduate admissions offices of five universities: Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn, and Stanford. Representatives will conduct brief presentations about their institutions and answer your questions about college admissions. You will learn what distinguishes one university from another, what competitive colleges look for in the selection process, and what you can do to enhance your college application. Three programs are being offered in our area:

Summer On-Campus SAT Preparation Courses: The following companies will be offering SAT test preparation courses on The King's Academy campus between now and October.  In no way do we endorse any one particular program over another.  However, these companies offer quality courses, and each has its own particular strength.  Flyers are available for all these programs in the College Counseling Office.

Practice Test to Assess SAT vs. ACT Ability: The Princeton Review will be offering a practice test, called the Princeton Review Assessment (PRA), to help students determine whether they would score higher on the SAT or the ACT.  This is a great way to “meet” both tests.  The test will be on Saturday, May 18, at TKA.  The schedule will be as follows:
  • 9:00 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.  Students take the practice test
  • 1:15 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.  Follow-up session in the W Building for parents and students
At the follow-up session, Princeton Review will also give parents the opportunity to sign up for free 15-minute phone consultations and score report returns during the week of May 27.  For students who do not request a phone consultation, score reports will be emailed on Monday, June 10, along with a link to a video explaining the scores and score reports.  The fee for the test will be $15.  Please sign up by visiting www.princetonreview.com or calling 800-273-8439.
