Welcome New TKA Familes and Students! Currently, we are expecting 195 new students this fall (109 in 6th grade, 26 in 7th grade, 5 in 8th grade, 45 in 9th grade, 6 in 10th grade, 2 in 11th grade, and 2 in 12th grade)


Semester 2 Report Cards Will Be in Portal Today, June 7: Please note that all progress reports and report cards for the 2012-2013 year will be available through June 30, 2013.  Please SAVE A PDF COPY of the final Semester 2 Report Card before that time.  Those applying for CSF or CJSF next fall will need copies of the Semester 2 Report Card to submit with their application.


Lost & Found Out Until End of Day Friday, June 14!  Because there is so much still left unclaimed, tables will be in front of SAO for one more week, until end of day Friday, June 14.  After those dates, everything is donated to charity!


Student Medications:  Student medications that have been kept in the SAO first aid room during the school year should now be picked up in the Main Office.  The Main Office is open Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

FROM THE BUSINESS OFFICE:

Past School Year (2012-2013) Tuition Information:  The final tuition payment from the year was due May 1st.  There is no payment due in June.  Should there be anything outstanding on your account, you have been contacted directly from the Business Office.

 

2013-2014 Student Fee:  The student fee for next year was due May 15th so is now considered late.  If this fee is still outstanding, it has increased $100 and is now $900 for middle school and $1,000 for high school.  You have also been contacted by the Business Office.

 

Next School Year (2013-2014) Tuition Information:  The first tuition payment for the year is due Monday, July 1.  Though we plan to email each family with tuition payment amounts this month, we ask that you be pro-active to determine your own payment.  To calculate, refer to your Contract on your parent portal or the TKA website on the Admissions/Tuition tab.  For exceptions, email maryann.palm@tka.org.

Summer Reading and Assignments:   


Summer Courses Beginning to Fill Up...!  If you are thinking about enrolling your student(s) in any of the courses offered at TKA this summer, whether remedial or enrichment courses, you may want to consider making your decision soon, as some courses have already reached their maximum enrollment levels.  To see a list of courses offered this summer, visit the summer programs webpage, www.tka.org/summerprograms, where you can also register online for the courses that still have space available.  Questions can be directed to Marissa Lockett in the Admissions Office at (408) 481-9900 x4222.


Summer Junior High Debate Camp:  It's not too late to sign up! Join us in June (10-27) or July (8-26) for an exciting 3-week session that covers the basics of public speaking, argumentation, and refutation. Details are available on the TKA summer courses webpage. Any questions may be directed to Kimberly Chastagner.

Host Family STILL Needed for TKA International Student:  We are still seeking a host family for a current TKA international student  for the coming school year.  The student is male and will be in 11th grade. Please contact Admissions Director, Mrs. Michele Duncan.


TKA Student Places 5th in Physics Bowl!  Aneesh Samineni, TKA Freshman, recently placed 5th among over 4,000 high school students from 270 schools in the Physics Bowl 2013 national competition sponsored by the American Physical Association and the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT).   The contest is a one hour exam of classical and modern physics concepts.  Other winners were from Pennsylvania, California, Maryland, Canada & China.  Aneesh will receive prizes from the AAPT later this summer for his accomplishment.


TKA Hosts Sunnyvale 5K Kids Fun Run & Walk:  TKA's campus is used for many community activities.  On Saturday, May 4, kids and adults of all ages arrived at The King’s Academy campus in Sunnyvale, eager and excited to start the 3rd annual 5K KIDS Fun Run & Walk, an event sponsored by the Sunnyvale nonprofit K.I.D.S. and Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.  Read more here.

CLASS SPECIFIC ANNOUNCEMENTS 

 

Summer Math Essentials Course: Did your child struggle in math this year?  Help strengthen their math skills so that they are more prepared for the next school year by enrolling them in Math Essentials by Friday, June 14.  This is for students who will be entering 7th-9th grades this fall. 12th Grade London Trip 2014:  Sign-ups continue! Simply follow this link to register at EF Tours and pay the $95 non-refundable registration fee.  There is a convenient monthly payment plan for any who are interested in that.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mr. George Parsons. Remember, this trip takes place during Christmas vacation next year (January 4-12), and exams will be finished in December.

ACADEMIC AND COLLEGE COUNSELING

 

Summer On-Campus SAT Preparation Courses: The following companies will be offering SAT test preparation courses on The King's Academy campus between now and October.  In no way do we endorse any one particular program over another.  However, these companies offer quality courses, and each has its own particular strength.  Flyers are available for all these programs in the College Counseling Office.

 

VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS

 

Junior High Fall Musical:  The Junior High Drama Department  is proud to announce our Fall musical, which is…?????  Well, we aren’t quite ready to announce yet, but check the school’s website regularly.  We will be posting the show title very soon!


Summer Open Art Studio:  Come to Open Art Studio this summer, during June and July, on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. (Note: change in time) for kids, families, and even alumni. Knights Brigade Marching Band & Color Guard Application Linked Here. Band Camp begins August 5, so it's not too early to register!  View the fall schedule. 


Voice Lessons: Mr. Sluyter, Vocal Music teacher, will be giving voice lessons to interested TKA students this summer.  This is a great way for students to learn to sing a little better and help with vocal technique.  The lessons are ½ hour and cost $10.  The schedule is flexible based on summer schedules.  For more information, contact Mr. Sluyter at jim.sluyter@tka.org.

  

ATHLETICS


TKA Summer Camps:  Click here to read about our many summer sport camps and begin online registration. TKA camps are led by our top coaches and will fill up quickly.  Please sign up today!  


Boys Interested in JV Basketball for the 2013/2014 Season are encouraged to participate in the summer basketball program.  The first workout will be Saturday, June 8, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00pm in the TKA Gym. Additional workouts will be held June 10– 14, 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. in the TKA Gym.  Pick up the summer game schedule in the Athletic Office. All games are played at TKA. Summer participation is fee $50.00 per player due by Friday, June 14. Checks can be made out to Drew Petiti, Varsity Basketball Head Coach. Basketball tops will be provided.


Boys Varsity Basketball Summer Tryouts:  Interested sophomores and juniors should attend boys varsity basketball summer tryouts on Monday, June 10, and Tuesday, June 11, 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the Gym. For those interested in playing varsity basketball next year this is a chance to show what you can do.


5th-9th Graders Basketball Camp:  Coach Petiti is running a basketball camp for 5th through 9th graders during the first week of summer break. The dates are Monday, June 3-Friday, June 7. This is open to both boys and girls. All who are interested pick up a flier in the Athletic Office.


8th Grade Girls Summer Basketball:  All 8th grade girls interested in playing basketball next year – we have a summer league team. Please pick up a summer schedule in the athletic office. Practice starts Monday, June 10.


Summer Cross Fit:  If you are interested in a summer workout on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., please contact Coach Mike Johnson. More details to follow if there is an interest.

Summer Workouts: If you are interested in participating in any of the sports listed below at The King's Academy, click here for summer workout information and coach contact information.  All incoming freshmen (which include former TKA 8th graders), can begin participation on June 8th per CIF/CCS rules.  All summer practices and games end during the dead period of August 1–16.
