From Head of School Dear New TKA Families,
The King's Academy always strives to become excellent in all that we do. To that end, TKA has a 1:1 technology program that offers many impactful learning experiences in the classroom and prepares students to utilize all the technology and applications required for 21st century careers. Read more about TKA's Technology Vision and visit the Technology Frequently Asked Questions webpage.
For 2020-2021, instead of issuing school devices as we have in the past, TKA will become a "Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD) campus. BYOD has become the standard at many schools. At TKA, students in grades 6-8 use iPads, and high school students use MacBook laptops. Note: Students will be limited to only one device on TKA's network.
The specifications below make sure all devices are compatible with classroom applications and other Apple products at TKA, including the Apple TVs.
Apple has a special website that allows TKA parents to order directly from them at a discount. We highly encourage you to take out the AppleCare insurance on your device. To purchase your student's Apple product, visit our Family-Funded iPad and Mac Program online custom store. This secure, custom page ensures that you're buying the Apple device your student needs. It offers all the same great features you find when shopping on the Apple website, including free delivery and in-store pickup. You can also visit your local Apple Store. Finance options may also available for purchases made at an Apple Store or online. And to find out if your existing Apple device qualifies to be traded in for a gift card toward a purchase in a store, visit www.apple.com/recycling.
Next school year, when students are on TKA's campus, all their online activities will be filtered and monitored by TKA, but TKA will not monitor nor filter computers off campus. Since families own the device, parents may now install whichever security features they want to protect their children, giving parents the freedom to make the right choices for their students. Please make sure to disable those filters during school hours so as not to interfere with TKA filtering. There are resources on TKA's website under "TKA's Technology Vision--> 1:1 Technology FAQs", such as parental control software to explore, including Net Nanny and Circle.
