Important Message from the Student Attendance Office (SAO): Remember to report all absences, late arrivals, early departures to the SAO at attendance@tka.org. Please do not report this information to teachers. For the safety and security of all students, the SAO must track all students all day. Help Us Prevent the Spread of Illness! We are soliciting your help during this cold and flu season. - Parents: If your student is experiencing stomach upset, please be very cautious and consider keeping them home under observation rather than sending them to school.
- Students: Use the Purell hand santizers in every classroom and wash hands after using the restroom and before eating!
- 24-Hour Rule: Please remember to keep students home if their temperature is above 100.0 F (38.7 C) or they report not feeling well, appear weak or ill. Students MUST be free of all symptoms (i.e. fever, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.) without using fever-reducing medicines such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, for 24 hours before being allowed to return to school. (pg. 37 Student/Parent Handbook)
California Scholarship (and Junior Scholarship) Federation: CSF and CJSF membership applications. The membership drive runs January 6 through Monday January 23. If you are in the 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade you are eligible to apply. Please remember that you must reapply each semester, so even if you are already a member you will need to apply again. - CSF Application: 10th, 11th, 12th grades
- CJSF Application: 7th & 8th grades
- Please provide a copy of last semester's 2022 fall semester report card or your transcript along with the application form.
- There is a $5 application fee payable here (credit card only - no refunds.) The deadline for turning in your application is Monday January 23. Per CSF/CJSF guidelines, "late applications cannot be accepted".
- Please remit application & report card or transcript to the SAO office by January 23.
- To access your Report Card in the Family Portal
- Go to www.tka.org and log in to your Family Portal.
- In the Student menu on the left, click on "Report Card".
- Click on the printer icon in the upper right corner to print a PDF file or print a hard copy.
2023-2024 Course Selection Process - Monday, February 6: Course selection materials distributed
- Thursday, February 9: Portals open for course selection
- Tuesday, February 21: Course selection sheets due and Portal closes for course selection

| 8th Grade Students & Their Parents: "Transitioning to High School & Academic Planning" on Thursday, January 12, at 7:00 p.m. in the W Building. **All 8th grade students and parents should plan to attend. We have made changes to the 9th grade curriculum which will be important to understand before course selection. |

Introducing Continuous Enrollment at TKA: Because nearly 95% of TKA families choose to remain at The King's Academy through graduation, TKA is adopting Continuous Enrollment (CE), a simple, seamless process for you to keep your students enrolled at TKA. Plus, CE offers guaranteed placement for your student until his/her graduation. |
When you re-enroll for the 2023-2024 school year, you will submit an enrollment agreement just as you have in the past. The enrollment packet will be available on January 15 in the FACTS portal and will be due no later than February 28. More details here. |
Re-Enrollment for 2023-2024 School Year: Below are dates and fees to ensure your student will be enrolled at The King's Academy for the next school year. Thank you for your attention to these details. Note: Tuition for 2023-2024 will be published in early January. - January 15, 2023 - Online Re-enrollment instructions with continuous enrollment contracts available through FACTS Portal to current TKA families. Link available by the end of the day.
- February 28, 2023 - Continuous enrollment contracts (or notice of not returning next school year) due from existing TKA families. Complete all information online.
- March 1, 2023 - $1,000 tuition deposit will be billed via FACTS.
- March 15, 2023 - $1,000 tuition deposit is due for all existing TKA families in order to secure your student's spot for the 2023-24 school year ($25 late fee after March 15).
- May 5, 2023 - All outstanding fees and items, such as library books and athletic uniforms, must be paid/cleared for your student to receive a yearbook on the last day of classes.
- May 15, 2023 - Any devices should be returned for those not attending next year.
- July 1, 2023 - First tuition payment is due.

18 Year-Old Males - Required Selective Service Registration: Under current law all male US citizens between 18–25 years of age, born after January 1, 1960 are required to register within 30 days of their 18th birthday. In addition, non-US citizen men between the ages of 18 and 25 (inclusive) living in the United States must register. Those who fail to register may be denied student loans, job training, government jobs, and driver's licenses in most states. You can get a Selective Service registration card at your local post office, or you can register online at www.sss.gov. If you have any questions regarding registration, please visit the website or contact TKA's Registrar Office. Seniors & Families: Details to Help with Your Graduation Celebration Planning! - Graduation 2023: Graduation will be held on Saturday, May 27, at 10:00 a.m. on Kellogg Field. There will be unlimited, open seating - no tickets required.
- Grad Night 2023: Grad Night will be held at Long Branch Farms at Half Moon Bay on Saturday, May 27. Buses will leave TKA at 3:30 p.m. and return at 10:15 p.m.

| Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Art Contest: Come join in TKA's celebration of AAPI heritage and culture by participating in an all-medium art contest! Express your creativity, thoughts, and reflections on Asian and AAPI community, culture, and heritage through all art mediums, such as poetry, photography, and drawing. Your art will also be displayed on campus and/or be made available online for everyone to enjoy. The winner of the contest will receive a $25 Amazon gift card. The deadline for all submissions is Friday, January 20. All TKA students and staff members are invited to participate. |

- Winners of the Christmas Tree Coloring Contest: Congratulations to the winners #1- 7th grader Emma Lee, #2 6th grader Nora Xu and #3 7th grader, Noelle Kang. Thank you to all those who submitted an entry. These were beautiful works of art.Thank you for the wonderful Admin staff who helped to vote for our winners.
- January Display - American Library Award Contenders. Winners will be announced on January 30. These books have been nominated for the following awards: John Newbery Award, Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award and Author Award, Pura Belpre Illustrator Award and Author Award, YALSA Nonfiction Award, and the Michael L. Printz Award. These are the Emmy and Oscars of the book world. Come and check out the books and guess your winning books.

- Martin Luther King - January 16 is Martin Luther King's birthday. We will have books about his life and what he has done for civil rights movement,
- Craft Making Table- Make Lunar New Year Lanterns for the upcoming Lunar New Year. We are starting early to make lanterns to decorate our tree in the library on Friday, January 6. Please come to the Craft Making Table to help make our lantern tree.
- Lunar New Year celebrating the year of the Rabbit. The Lunar New Year starts January 22- February 6, celebrating the year of the Rabbit. We will have books about rabbits and books celebrating the new year.

| | Parent Seminar: "Responsible Use of Social Media": Thursday, February 7, 7:00 p.m., Theater In today's world, parents now have the added responsibility of warning about the impacts social media can have on young people's lives. Now more than ever, a simple Tweet or post on Instagram can alter a young person's life forever. Ben's story provides real-life context to that difficult discussion. Ben shares practical, proven strategies and resources to keep kids safe online. Ben J. Tracy from Safe Social Network will present to students during a special chapel on Tuesday. Attending this parent seminar will give you an opportunity to have a rich discussion with your student(s) on this topic. This event is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. (Per the speaker's requirements, the seminar cannot be videotaped or livestreamed.) |

This Week in Chapel: The students were given the opportunity to fellowship together as a Home Group, in an attempt to aid the spiritual growth of each student while also helping them to be more socially confident and concerned. This took the shape of Home Group competitions! Each Home Group was paired with another, so they could band together as a group, battling it out in team-building Home Group Competitions. |

Juniors Only - SAT School Day on Wednesday, March 1, 2023: This exam is only open to current TKA Juniors (Class of 2024). Details here. TKA juniors who would like to take the SAT at TKA on this date must complete the SAT Registration Form and pay the $65 fee by 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2023. The fees are nonrefundable. Please email questions to Cari Bruzelius, Director of Curriculum and Instruction: cari.bruzelius@tka.org 9th Grade College Night: Thursday, January 26, 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the W Building. The College & Academic Counselors will review course planning, give an overview of college admissions, and how parents can prepare their 9th graders for high school and beyond. Senior Scholarship Opportunity for Women: The National League of American Women is offering three $1,000 scholarships for females exceling in art, writing, or music. Application deadline is Monday, March 13. Details here. Scholarship & Grant Resource: Going Merry is a free scholarship search and application platform. Thousands of scholarships and grants. USC Coding Camp: CS@SC offers one-week coding camps in-person and virtually for kindergarten - 12th grade students with topics ranging from scratch to python to cybersecurity. | Vocal Music Gala - Friday, January 20, 7:00 p.m.: Our own Knightshine students are hosting a Gala! Guests will enjoy an array of tasty desserts by candlelight while listening to the beautiful harmonies sung by our talented students at this semi-formal event. Ticket sales will help offset some of the travel costs for the Worldstrides Festival in March 2023! Please contact a Knightshine student or the VPA Office to purchase a ticket.
