This Week in High School Chapel: We heard from Bryson Bridges. He moved to the Bay Area from Temecula to play football for San Jose State University, where he remained to serve as Athletic Chaplin, until this year, that is, as he will now be joining our Spiritual Life staff here at TKA! The title of his message was: "I Don't Have To, I GET To." He encouraged the staff and students not to see things in life as a burden, but as a gift and opportunity - including our relationship with God. Going to chapel, reading the Bible, spending time in prayer, etc. don't have to be burdens, or "we have to"s, but can be treasured gifts that we appreciate and make the most of. Home Group Discussion Questions: - One of the things that pleases God, according to Paul, is growing in knowledge of him. What has been helping you with this? What is something you can do to help with this?
- Has following Jesus ever felt more like a burden than a gift? Why or why not?
- From the message, what is the difference between knowing facts about God versus knowing God intimately? How do we close this gap?
- Why is getting to know God a gift? Why is getting to walk with God a gift?
- What does it look like to "walk in a manner worthy of the Lord" in your shoes? What does it look like to please God in your life?
This Week in Junior High Chapel: Our students had six seminar choices. Here are some discussion questions for parents to ask their junior high students: - Healthy Relationships & Personality Styles by Real Options: Do you have the personality of a lion, otter, golden retriever or beaver?
- Resisting Peer Pressure by Michael Wilton & Liz Danielski: What tool will you use to stand up for what you know is right?
- Stanford Swimmer: What stood out to you the most about Allie Raab's relationship with God?
- Rest & Sabbath by Anne Ling: What does God think about rest? What kind of activities are refreshing for you?
- Getting Along with Boys (8th grade girls with female teacher panel): What was one take-away for you about your relationship with boys?
- Getting Along with Girls (8th grade boys with male teacher panel): What's something new you learned about girls?
