Meet the VPA StafF

MAUREEN GHIOSSI: VPA Lead · 10 years at TKA 
Teaches Junior High Fundamentals of Theatre (7 & 8 Grades), Film Studies (high school course), and produces and directs the Junior High Musical and Junior High Play. Maureen earned a B.A. in Creative Arts from San Jose State University and has been involved with theatre since the 5th grade. She is passionate about theatre and how it can help students prepare for all areas of life!

RHONDA IRWIN: VPA Coordinator · 10 years at TKA
As a parent, Rhonda always found herself organizing some aspect of her children’s activities. Her many years of playing in the college band, accompanying orchestra and show choir, choral singing, teaching elementary children’s music classes and working behind the scenes of drama productions allows her to connect with students pursuing this aspect of education. She attended California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering.

MARK ANDERSON: Ceramics & Calligraphy Teacher · 18 years at TKA
Mark earned a B.S. from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC, majoring in Art Education with a minor in History. He also did graduate work at Bethany University in Scotts Valley. He has been teaching full-time since 1972 and has taught ceramics, calligraphy, and linear perspective drawing since the beginning of his teaching career using the curricula he developed for these three studio art classes.

RYAN BORTZ: Band & Orchestra Director · 9 years at TKA
Ryan earned his B.A. in music, with a concentration in music education, from Pepperdine University. Additionally, he has an M.A. in education, with a concentration in curriculum and instruction, from CSU, Northridge, and a Master of Music degree, with a concentration in instrumental conducting, from Sam Houston State University.

LOTTE DEDEAUX : Vocal Music Director · 3 years at TKA
Teaches Mixed Chorus, Knightshine. Lotte is a graduate of Azusa Pacific University and has been teaching music for over 25 years. Her passion for music started at a very young age, and she has been on numerous music tours, performing both nationally and internationally.

MARIA HANSEN-KIVIJARVI: VPA Coordinator Assistant, Set Design & Build Lead · 4 years at TKA  
Maria has a Master's degree in Education with an emphasis in Art Education and Teaching the Finnish language and a professional background in Pottery, Children’s Ministry and Finnish Translation.  After starting as a volunteer for TKA’s first junior high production in 2009, she has been the lead Scenic Artist for more than 15 TKA shows, and is now our in-house Set Design and Build Lead. Part of the week, she will also be coordinating VPA activities, so look for her in the VPA office if she is not behind the stage!

SARAH HONG: String Ensemble, 6th Grade Strings Teacher · 3 years at TKA
Sarah has a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music from The Julliard School in New York. She also earned an Artist Certificate in Chamber Music from The San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Sarah has been teaching cello, chamber music, and has been an orchestra coach for nineteen years.

LAUREN LEONG: High School Theatre Director and Teacher · 2 years at TKA
Teaches High School Theatre courses, produces and directs High School Play, High School Musical, and Theatre Showcase. Lauren earned a B.A. in Theatre Arts from Azusa Pacific University. She has worked as a director and teaching artist at various public schools and theatre companies in the Bay Area and NYC. Lauren is looking forward to an exciting year of theatre!

STACEY REED: Dance Teacher · 3 years at TKA
Teaches all levels of Junior High and High School Dance. Stacey is a TKA alumna who then received her B.A. in Dance from San Jose State University. She has been teaching dance for 11 years within public dance studios and elementary schools. Stacey feels blessed and overjoyed to be continuing for another year!

CHRIS SEGURITAN: Digital Art Teacher · 7 years at TKA
Teaches Digital Design, Introduction to Digital Painting, 3D Modeling with ZBrush. Chris received his bachelor's degree in Digital Arts and Animation with a minor in Illustration from Cogswell Polytechnical College. He has worked professionally in the art field for more than 10 years and has taught courses for 7 years.

CINDI SWEET: Art Teacher · 20 years at TKA
Teaches Advanced Art, Independent Art, Art Portfolio, 3D Art, Junior High Art, Discovering Art. As a graduate of the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts  in Art Studio and Bachelor of Science in Art Education, Cindi has taught art around the country. She credits God for giving her the gift of teaching all ages at The King's Academy. Her passion is helping students overcome their fear of drawing by teaching them the knowledge of God through the beauty of art. She loves taking them on journeys to see a variety of art styles and techniques, while helping them experience the joys of creating through God's strength in them.  Cindi nurtures the ministry of TKA’s Fine Arts through vibrant color, collaboration in and outside the class, and through an encouraging studio environment.
